Dr. Francesco Sirano Street life in Pompeii, between past and present. The project “Pompeii for everyone”. Street life was a crucial experience in the ancient Pompeii, not only for citizens, but for any foreigner or peasant who lived in the agro, arrived in town for his business, for a religious ceremony or to assist the games of the Amphitheatre. The street was not only a place of transit, but a sign of the urban civilization and culture. Each street of the ancient Pompeii was a real, linear commercial center with shops, workshops thermopolia (sales points of hot food and beverages) and especially the ovens. The project “Pompeii for everyone” meets two strategic requirements: from one side it stresses the importance of the streets in understanding Pompeii life, from the other side it renews the visitors’ path adjusting it in such a way that it results simple and easy to go through for everyone, including disabled people.
