POMPEII STORIES, a series of lectures (in inglese)

Pr. Massimo Osanna (Superintendent for the Archaeological Heritage of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Stabiae) Pompeii: projects and perspectives. Since its discovery in 1748, Pompeii has occupied a central place in European culture. This central position has been further evidenced by the international attention of the press, but especially since it was enlisted as a UNESCO protected site in 1997 and, more recently, with the Great Pompeii Project, funded with 105 million euros from the European Community. The Great Pompeii Project is an extraordinary intervention on the site with a plan tailored to the needs of today. It is intended to resolve the existing issues and to give a new image to Pompeii, moving from scientific and conservation needs to then turn to the general public. The project has a conscious plan of exposure and fruition for the site that is visited by nearly 3 million people a year, combining know-how within conservation, education and testing technologies for documentation and restoration, to transform it into a place of excellence. No registration needed, free entrance
