”Transleit”
What is Neapolitan? Is it a dialect that only some people can understand or is it a universal language, resulting of multiple linguistic contaminations, which can reach beyond its regional boarders?
The success of EbbaneSis seems to be in favour of the latter hypothesis. Born in June 2017 on the web, EbbaneSis is a duo composed of Viviana Cangiano (voice) e Serena Pisa (voice and guitar).
EbbaneSis started to perform on Facebook, with personal adaptations of famous songs of the Neapolitan tradition and rock hits translated into the Neapolitan dialect. Their version of ”Carmela” obtained more than 400.000 views, and they went viral with a Neapolitan cover of ”Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen, with more than 2.000.000 views.
In 2019, EbbaneSis released their first album, Serenvivity, named after a show that toured in France, Germany, Russia and the Emirates. EbbaneSis recently released their second album, Transleit. With the same irony and wit, they present a new repertoire of reinterpretations of famous Italian and international songs.
“EbbaneSis” means “e bbane” (money) and “sis” (sisters) in the ‘Parlesia’ slang, a sort of vernacular language of the Neapolitan musicians.
Viviana Cangiano is a singer and actress. Other than EbbaneSis, she played in “The Major of Rione Sanità” (2019) by Mario Martone, “The Finch Thief” (2020) by Carlo Luglio and “The hand of God” (2021) by Paolo Sorrentino.
Serena Pisa is a singer and actress. Other than EbbaneSis, she played in “The King of Laughter” (2021) by Mario Martone.
