Föredrag med Giovanni Isgrò
Fortuny had an important role in the renewal of the European scene in the nineteenth and twentieth century, particularly in the addition of electricity in theatres. Fortuny’s technical-artistic brillance ranges from his first Venetian experiments and the ones with direct and reflected light during his time in Paris, to the completion of the dome that bears his name. His work, and the ideology that is at it’s base, has also engaged artists who have shaped the history of European theater of the early twentieth century; in particular Adolphe Appia and Gabriele d’Annunzio. Both Fortuny’s work with Adolphe Appia regarding the theatre of Richard Wagner and how to merge music and light on stage and his work with D’Annunzio on how to resolve the staging of his dramas through a modern implementation of light are still issues of great interest today. GIOVANNI ISGRÒ Professor of Performing Arts at the University of Palermo, author of several books on theater and performances from the Middle Ages to the Baroque. He has dedicated a lot of his work to Mariano Fortuny and has published several essays, including ”Fortuny and the theater.” He also has an interest for direction of urban theater and “theatre outside the theatre”, especially in archaeological spaces.
