Screening – ”Voyage au bout d’une identité” and ”Liquid Traces – The Left-to-die Boat Case”

Voyage au bout d’une identité”, Filip Markiewicz, 2015 (35 min)

The film follows a young couple on their journey across Europe in search of their European identity. This journey not only leads them physically to different locations and through different linguistic areas, but they also touch on different clichés and codes, fashions and mentalities, which Markiewicz invokes and accompanies musically. Their permanent dialogue revolves around political and philosophical, economic and cultural set pieces of Europe, which, however, can never be combined into a whole.

Liquid Traces shows a synthetic reconstruction of the events known as the “left-to-die-boot” case. 72 passengers who left the Libyan coast for the island of Lampedusa on board a small rubber boat drifted for 14 days in the NATO maritime surveillance area. Despite several distress signals mediating their location and repeated interactions, including at least one military helicopter visit and an encounter with a military ship.
