Check out our programme of events for October 2022!
First event of October will be the concert ’Transleit’ by the duo EbbaneSis, on Wednesday the 5th. The duo is composed by Viviana Cangiano and Serena Pisa. They started to perform online and quickly became a viral name with their personal adaptations of famous Neapolitan songs and rock hits translated into the Neapolitan dialect, like the cover of ’Bohemian Rhapsody’ by Queen, which achieved more than 2.000.000 views.
On the 11th of October, on the occasion of the 18th edition of Contemporary Art Day, we are going to host the opening of the exhibition ’Fare piano’ by artist Sabrina Mezzaqui. The exhibition consists of three large-format artworks that will be on display at our Institute until the 6th of January 2023. The title ’Fare piano’ refers to the artist’s expressive modality, developed around the concepts of repetitive gestuality, slowness and silence.
On the 18th of October, for the Week of the Italian Language in the World, under the theme ’Italian language and the young people’, we will present a talk entitled ’Young Italian Poetry’, focusing on the new poetic language trends among younger generations of writers. The discussion will held by Fabio Zinelli and Stefano Milonia. A reading of poems by emerging poets Alessandra Cava and Lorenzo Mari will follow.
Highlight of this month is ’Pasolini 100’, a set of initiatives to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Pier Paolo Pasolini’s birth. Our Institute is particularly attached to this anniversary since Pasolini was our guest at the end of October 1975 to present the poetic collection ’Le ceneri di Gramsci’, a few days before being murdered on the beach at Ostia on the 2nd of November. A foretaste of the official program will be the screening of ’Teorema’ movie, as part of the Cinema Queer Festival, at the Aspen cinema on the 6th of October.
Our Pasolini programme begins on the 24th of October with the inauguration of the photographic exhibition ’Pasolini. Hypothesis of representation’, curated by M. Delogu, A. Cortellessa, S. De Laude. The exhibition consists of shots taken by photographers inspired by Pasolini’s work and themes. It will remain on display until 6 January 2023. During the opening night, we also propose Simone Vallerotonda’s lute concert ’Méditations’, an anthology of pieces conceived in dialogue with the themes dear to Pasolini.
On the 25th of October, it will be the time for ’Reflections for tomorrow’, a day of studies dedicated to Pasolini, with talks by Silvia De Laude, Maria Careri, Paolo Lago and Carl Henrik Svenstedt. Cecilia Schwartz will moderate the debate. The day will end with a concert by the Alchimie sonore ensemble, entitled ’What are clouds?’, a set of unpublished musical compositions inspired by Pasolini.
Finally, on the 30th of October, we will kick start a series of four film diptychs dedicated to Pasolini´s work for cinema, paired four of his movies by as many by contemporary Italian directors. The first diptych, screened at the Aspen cinema, will consist of ’Mamma Roma’ and ’Nasty Love’ by Mario Martone. The evening will be introduced by a short lecture by Astrid Söderbergh Widding, Rector of Stockholm University, and Massimo Fusillo, Professor of Comparative Literature at the University of L’Aquila.
