”Vacanze” (”Holidays”) – The Italian rap music by Orlando Trigo and Fetti Wav

The Italian Cultural Institute in Stockholm is presenting a musical project focused on the world of the Italian rap together with the rapper Orlando Trigo (Orlando Stringhi) and the producer Fetti Wav (Gabriele Rossoni).

Orlando Trigo and Fetti Wav present their music and their work through six videoclips, in which they tell the path that leads to the creation of a rap song. How is a song made? What is its creative process?

The collaboration between the Italian Cultural Institute in Stockholm and the two musicians was born during the lockdown imposed by the Covid-19 emergency in Italy. The Institute commissioned Orlando Trigo and Fetti Wav to create an original song entitled ”The holidays”. Both of them worked from their own home in Bergamo, one of the most affected Italian provinces due to the pandemic. The isolation did not stop their creativity: in this case, only a microphone, a computer and something to write on are needed to create their soundtracks.

From June 15th to June 20th we are going to publish six videos on the Institute’s Facebook and Instagram profiles. Together with Orlando Trigo and Fetti Wav we are going to pass through the different stages that lead to record a song: from the inspiration’s research to the beat’s creation, to the writing of the text and the chorus, all the way to the completed soundtrack, that will be released on June 20th.

  • Episode 1 – Presentation (15.06.2020)

Orlando Trigo and Fetti Wav present themselves to the Institute’s public.

  • Episode 2 – The inspiration (16.06.2020)

Orlando Trigo takes a real photo that pictures his emotional state. The inspiration often comes from movies sentences or reflections, which Orlando transports into his music with the aim of telling life, experiences and relationships’ dynamics.

For Fetti Wav the inspiration comes from the sampling of some old songs’ parts, which then he recomposes to create new melodies and new tracks.

  • Episode 3 – The beat (17.06.2020)

Fetty Wet explains how he realizes a beat starting from sample he previously identified. Then he uploads it on a specific program and he modifies it according to his intention. Once he has obtained the desired sound, Fetty Wet cuts the favorite parts and he recomposes them again. At that point, drums, bass and an additional texture sound are added to obtain the starting look. In this case, Fetty Wet chooses not to create any complex melody, but rather an atmosphere, in order to leave more freedom to Trigo and his writing.

  • Episode 4 – The text (18.06.2020)

Trigo comes into the picture with the writing after receiving the sound base from Fetti Wav. He never writes without listening to the base first, he prefers to let himself be carried away by the atmosphere created by Fetti and starting right from the music, which influences the choice of the words. He writes the text on the phone notes, because, after all, ”we are slaves of our time”.

  • Episode 5 – The refrain (19.06.2020)

Regarding the beat, Fetti Wav chooses to maintain the atmosphere and not create overwhelming melodies for the refrain. It only adds the sound of a clarinet and cymbals, together with another sample, which however remains almost imperceptible, in order to give a greater atmosphere.

The refrain gives the title to the song and it comes from the holidays’ memory, especially those spent with friends. Trigo reflects on how it is harder to organize vacation with friends when we grow up: no more endless summer holiday that we used to spend when we were teenagers. Trigo feels like he didn’t fully experience that period of life, when freedom had no limits, except from the ones imposed by parents.

  • Episode 6 – The song (”Vacanze”/”Holidays”) (20.06.2020)

The final result of the creative process by Trigo and Fetti Wav is the song ”Vacanze” (”Holidays”).

Orlando Stringhi, as known as Orlando Trigo, was born in 1999 in Caravaggio (Bergamo). He began writing when he was 11 years old. At that age, he discovered Marracash and the Italian rap thanks to his older brother. For a few years he has been publishing songs on YouTube, alone or as a part of a rap group. At the beginning of 2019 he met the producer Fetti Wav, with whom he establishes a relationship of friendship and productivity destined to last a long time.

Gabriele Rossoni, as known as Fetti Wav, was born in the province of Bergamo in 1994. He is the producer of Orlando Trigo. Passionate about rap and urban music since adolescence, he decided to devote himself to production after seeing some of his idols playing live. In constant search for new influences, he loves to create a modern sound using the most classic method: sampling.

In February 2020 they released their first self-produced album, ”L’albero Degli Zoccoli”. The title is a inspired from the award-winning 1978 film directed by Ermanno Olmi, which tells the story of the life of four Bergamo peasant families towards the end of the twentieth century.
