VALUES IN PROGRESS

During these days many of us bring to mind the Decameron, a collection of 100 stories written by Giovanni Boccaccio between 1349 and 1351. The stories are told by seven women and three boys, who took refuge in the countryside around Florence to escape from the plague that raged in city in 1348. These stories can be considered as a way to occupy a new, suspended and different time, but also a vehicle of hope, salvation and freedom.

Values in progress is a social campaign conceived and created by the Italian Cultural Institute in Stockholm, through which writers, journalists, researchersartists, designers, architects, curators, intellectuals and others are invited to tell about these days, when the world slows down and the Institute itself is forced to suspend its activities. Each of them is invited to do so in her/his own way, using her/his own "tools" and language.

The goal is to stimulate international empathy and launch an inclusive, emotional message based on a common sense of belonging. At the same time, we intend to spread the "positive" message of a country which, despite the current difficulties linked to the spread of coronavirus, maintains its vital and creative force, continuing to produce and spread culture.

This pause will give us a new time that we can spend reflecting on the values of our time, together - even if are physically distant. Because culture doesn't stop.

You can follow all the contributions through the Institute's social pages: Facebook, Instagram and Youtube.
