Leonardo da Vinci as a Sculptor: the Virgin with the Laughing Child in London

On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci (Amboise,2 May 1519) The Italian Cultural Institute in Stockholm is pleased to host the conference "Leonardo da Vinci as a Sculptor: the Virgin with the Laughing Child in London" held by Francesco Caglioti, Professor of History of Medieval Art at Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa and specialist on the Italian Renaissance.

The masterpiece has always been attributed to the Florentine master Antonio Rossellino (1427-1479), but a recent study sees Leonardo da Vinci’s hand (1452-1479), which would make this work, the only surviving sculpture by the creator of the Mona Lisa.

The terracotta statuette belongs to London’s Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) and has been a part of the institution’s collection since 1858.

The event has received the support of the "Comitato Nazionale per la celebrazioni dei 500 anni dalla morte di Leonardo da Vinci".

The conference will be held in English.
