On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci (Amboise, 2 May 1519), the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation is planning more than 150 events to commemorate this particular year. They will include exhibitions, conferences, films and theatrical performances celebrating the great genius of the Renaissance. Engineer, artist, scientist and polymath, Leonardo left an immense body of work to study, admire and contemplate.
The Italian Cultural Institute in Stockholm is pleased to present the performance ”Leonardo and his time – Music and dances in the places and at the time of Leonardo” by La Rossignol, that has received the support of the ”Comitato Nazionale per la celebrazioni dei 500 anni dalla morte di Leonardo da Vinci”.
La Rossignol is a group of artists and researchers who came together with the common aim of studying and propagating musical pieces and dance taken from original manuscripts using copies of the instruments of the time.
The dance is the symbol of divine cosmic harmony and represents the order and harmony that reign at court: it is the nobility that, through the grandeur of events, celebrates its triumph in a happy journey towards the new sense of harmony, towards the perfection of art, music and dance in an era in which they contributed to the evolution of human thought.
The program proposes a sort of ”ideal journey” in music and dance used in places where Leonardo was alive to respond to the invitations of the princes who called him, with the aim of evoking environments, sounds and images in which he lived and he created. The program also includes two historical curiosities: Leonardo’s musical Rebus and a low reconstructed dance using the melody discovered in the last dinner by G.M. Pala (”La musica concata” Ed. Vertigo, 2007).
