"Venice today, Venice tomorrow" a conference by Alberto Toso Fei



Whitin the framework of the initiatives of solidarity sustained by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs aimed to support the population and the artistic heritage of the city of Venice through the diplomatic network abroad, we are glad to present the conference “Venice today, Venice tomorrow” that will be held by the journalist and writer Alberto Toso Fei.
The conference is organized in collaboration with the association Pro Venezia Sverige.

Pro Venezia Sverige is a nonprofit association that was founded in 1974 by a number of people’s friends of Italy. At the association's annual meetings and several more times a year, Italian connoisseurs usually give talks related to Venice. Today, the association has about 200 members, whose membership fees and donations determine the framework for the association's activities.The association has had strong local support from the Swedish honorary consul in Venice and his staff. Sweden's ambassador to Rome is ex officio a member of the board.

Alberto Toso Fei was born in Venice in 1966. A Murano islander, he descends from one of the oldest families of master glassmakers. Journalist, writer and historian, he reported for television news outlets Televenezia, Antenna Tre Nord Est and Telenordest in addition to print media. His successful first book "Venetian Legends and Ghost Stories" (2000, Arsenale / 2002, Elzeviro) was followed by "Veneziaenigma" (2004, Elzeviro). The trilogy was completed in 2005 with the publication of "Mysteries of the Lagoon and Stories of Witches" (Elzeviro), winner of the Villa Morosin Special Jury Prize for fiction. 2007 saw the publication of "Shakespeare in Venice: Exploring the City with Shylock and Othello" (Elzeviro), a joint effort with Professor Shaul Bassi. "The Ruyi--Venice" and "The Ruyi--Rome" (2009, Log607/Marsilio) introduced an innovative travel guide concept in collaboration with Log607. He also edited "My Local Guide: Venice", one in a popular travel guide series. Most recently he has pubblished “Ritratti veneziani vol.1 and 2” (2018) and “I luoghi e i racconti più strani di Venezia. Vicende di uomini e di donne raccontate attraverso i luoghi segreti della Serenissima” (2019).
Alberto Toso Fei is the Artistic Director of the festival "Veneto Spettacoli di Mistero", The festival, created and supported by the Regione del Veneto. He lives and writes in both Venice and Rome.
